Step 2: Implant placement – what does the procedure involve?

The dental implant procedure itself is neither lengthy nor highly invasive. The placement of a single implant usually takes up to 30 minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort. The surgeon prepares the implant site, inserts and stabilises the implant, and then protects the area with sutures. The subsequent treatment pathway depends on the chosen method:

Conventional implants: These require a healing period known as osseointegration, which usually takes between three and six months. The implant is then uncovered and fitted with a healing abutment that shapes the gum tissue in preparation for the final crown.

All-on-4/6 treatment: This is a modern technique for patients who have lost all or most of their teeth. The surgical procedure and temporary prosthetic restoration can often be completed on the same day.

Recovery – what should you expect after the procedure?

The important healing process begins as soon as you leave the dental chair. Following your dentist’s instructions carefully is essential:

Do not eat until the local anaesthetic has completely worn off.

Avoid hot food and drinks and strenuous physical activity during the first few days.

Completely avoid alcohol and tobacco products, as they may interfere with healing.

Apply cold compresses to help minimise swelling.

Careful oral hygiene is also essential. During the first few days, avoid brushing the implant area directly and use any gentle mouth rinse recommended by your dentist.

Step 3: Prosthetic restoration – completing your transformation
