Dental radiology gives dentists genuine “superpowers”, allowing them to see what cannot be detected with the naked eye. At Warsaw Dental Academy, we use state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging to plan your treatment with millimetre precision while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Imagine an architect trying to restore a historic building without access to its foundation plans – this is what dentistry would be like without X-rays. Radiation in dentistry enables us to detect hidden tooth decay, inflammation around the roots and bone abnormalities while they are still completely painless. This allows us to begin treatment much earlier, saving you from pain and more invasive procedures.
Depending on your individual needs, we select the appropriate imaging technique:
This is one of the questions we hear most frequently. The answer is yes – it is completely safe. We live in a world of natural background radiation and are exposed to radiation from space and the ground every day. For comparison, a panoramic X-ray involves a dose of approximately 9–26 μSv, while an intercontinental flight may expose you to as much as 138 μSv. At our clinic, we follow the ALARA principle – As Low As Reasonably Achievable – which means using the lowest possible dose required to obtain a diagnostically useful image.
Although both examinations are extremely important, they differ in the amount and type of information they provide. A panoramic X-ray is a flat 2D image that is excellent for a general assessment. A CBCT scan, on the other hand, produces a 3D image that can be rotated on a computer screen. It allows the dentist to view a tooth from every angle, assess the bone before implant placement and precisely locate the course of nerves.
We invest in your comfort and health, which is why we have chosen the VATECH PAX-I 3D Smart Plus system. This device is among the most advanced scanners available. It produces radiation doses up to 50% lower than older systems while delivering images with exceptional detail. This enables our surgeons and endodontists to identify anatomical features that would remain unclear with traditional radiographic imaging.
A dental X-ray generally retains its diagnostic value for approximately two years, provided that no significant changes have occurred in your mouth and no new treatment has begun. Regularly updating your “smile map” allows us to monitor the condition of your teeth and bone, helping to prevent diseases that would only become visible to the naked eye at an advanced stage.
Pregnancy is the main contraindication to routine X-ray examinations. However, in an emergency, an X-ray may be taken when appropriate protection is used for the abdomen and pelvis. We always carefully assess whether the diagnostic benefit outweighs the minimal risk so that you can feel completely safe in our care.
At Warsaw Dental Academy, we believe that an accurate diagnosis is half the success of any treatment. By combining our specialists’ expertise with advanced digital technology, we can plan your treatment predictably and achieve lasting results. We are not afraid of complex cases because we can see more!
